Evan Frederickson , 2008 First Round Suuplemental Pick

#24 Evan Frederickson, Pitcher. 6'6" 238, bats left, throws left.

Evan Scott Frederickson was born 9/23/86 in Santa Monica, CA. He is the son of Tony and Nancy Frederickson.

Intersting tidbits:
Growing up in the L.A. area, Evan was a fan of the Dodgers. He was a ping pong champion at his high school.

PREP CAREER:
Evan lettered four seasons as a pitcher for Coach Scott Rowland at Oakton. He helped his team to a 72-22 record and two district titles during his varsity career, posting a 6-1 record and 1.11 earned run average as a senior. Fredrickson struck out 103 batters in 57 innings, while walking 29. He earned first-team all-district and all-region honors and compiled a 2.89 ERA as a junior and a 1.30 mark his sophomore year when he was 8-0. Evan registered four career no-hitters, including an 18 strikeout gem against Herndon in the 2005 Concorde District championship game. He graduated with a 3.5 G.P.A.

College Career:
AT VIRGINIA TECH (2006-07): As a sophomore went 2-1 with a 6.35 ERA in nine appearances... in 34.0 innings, had 47 strikeouts... held opponents to .174 batting average... as a freshman went 0-3 with a 7.94 ERA... struck out 21 batters in 22.2 innings. Spent the '07-'08 season pitching at the University of San Francisco where he was 5-3 with a 4.54 ERA , limiting opponents to a .219 batting average.

Professional Career:
After being drafted in the June '08 draft by the Brewers, Evan started at Helena where he started 3 games, pitching 11.2 innings giving up 4 earned runs on 13 hits, walking 5 while striking out 16. He finished his time in Helena with no record, a 3.09 ERA and a 1.607 WHIP. He was then promoted to West Virginia (A) where he started 4 games and pitched a total of 9 games, throwing 20.1 innings, giving up 14 earned runs on 16 hits, 26 walks and 18 strikeouts. He finished the '08 campaign with West Virginia with an 0-1 record, 6.20 ERA and 2.090 WHIP.

Evan Fredrickson is a tall, powerfully built left handed pitcher with unlimited potential. He has a 4-seam fastball that will easily sit in the low to mid 90's and compliments that with a 2-seam fastball, a slider, a cutter, and a changeup. Fredrickson has struggled with control issues. He was very eradic at the end of the '08 season, but that is likely due to fatigue. With proper coaching, he should be able to fix this and advance quickly through the system.

As a supplemental first round pick (35th overall) out of college, the Brewers likely will have Fredrickson on the fast track. He is beginning the season with the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (low A affiliate of the Brewers), but if he proves that the control issues have been corrected, he could be moved up the ladder at mid-season.
