The Hot List May '09

We're back with a new Hot List. We've changed up the format a bit. First, the Hot List is now going to be a monthly feature. The second change is the format of the list itself. Previous versions have been one all-encompassing list for all players. The new list will seperate pitchers from position players. We will now be ranking the top four position players and the top four pitchers. Now, without further delay, the Hot List.

Position Players

  1. Corey Kemp: Corey had a solid month putting up a .301 average, .377 on base percentage, and a .452 slugging percentage with 8 doubles, 2 homeruns and 11 walks. These numbers earned Kemp the Timber Rattlers player of the month award. Corey was ranked 4th overall in the previous Hot List.
  2. Chris Dennis: The only thing keeping Chris Dennis from the top spot is his low number of plate appearances. Chris wasn't added to the Timber Rattlers roster until May 17th after recovering from an injury. He exploded onto the scene gathering 22 hits in just 55 at bats, good for a .400 average, .469 on base percentage and .764 slugging percentage.
  3. Brett Lawrie: Despite a slow month by his standards, Brett stays on the list with a .260 average in May. He had a .345 on base percentage with a .427 slugging percentage on the strenght of his 25 hits, 2 doubles, 1 triple and 4 homeruns. Lawrie was previously ranked #1 overall on the hotlist.
  4. Brock Kjeldgaard: Brock is making his first appearance on the Hot List on the strength of his slugging. His average in May was a bit low at .233, but he backed that up with a .427 slugging percentage, powered by his 24 hits, 5 doubles and 5 homeruns.

Pitchers

  1. Dan Meadows: Dan earned player of the month honors with his huge month of May. Dan had a 2.83 FIP giving up just 22 hits and 8 walks in 31.1 innings, striking out 23 while holding opposing hitters to a .202 average. He put up a stellar WHIP of 0.96.
  2. Wily Peralta: Wily continued his strong season with a great month of May. He had a 1.44 FIP, giving up just 22 hits and 5 walks while striking out 33 in 23 innings. Wily was ranked third overall in the previous Hot List.
  3. Michael Bowman: Bowman earned a promotion to A+ Brevard County with his solid performance. In 30 innings he had a 2.26 FIP and a solid 1.27 WHIP. Bowman was 5th overall in the previous ranking. Good luck at Brevard, weather permitting!
  4. Cody Scarpetta: Cody has had his ups and downs this season, but he was good enough in May to earn the 4th and final spot on the Hot List. Scarpetta put up a 3.58 FIP, holding opposing hitters to a .227 average, striking out 22 in 20.2 innings.
